Entering ' the student's life ' . Fears // Начиная 'студенческую жизнь' . Страхи
The student's academic year will begin in Poland in less than a week. And yes, for those who didn't know in some countries, Poland for example, students enter a university on the 1st of October.
Despite the fact that I had already known in September 2016 that I shouldn't worry about the exams {because being a free listener I wasn't obliged to take them} I was very worried.
What it will be like?
How do rightful students perceive free listeners like me?
How do lecturers perceive this kind?
These were the main questions that tormented me. To be honest, I wasn't that bothered even before moving to Poland being 16 years old!
And the reason was my very role as the free listener, which I didn't fully comprehend at the time. Only a few people knew that the Fine Arts Academy provides such an opportunity at all. But I'll talk about this topic in another blog post.
Несмотря на то что еще в сентябре прошлого года я знала что мне не стоит волноваться насчет зачетов и экзаменов {потому что в том году я будучи свободным слушателем не обязана была их сдавать} я очень сильно переживала.
Каково это будет ?
Как воспринимают полноправные студенты свободных слушателей как я ?
Как такой вид воспринимают преподаватели ?
Это были те главные мучающие меня вопросы. Если честно я даже не волновалась так перед переездом на учебу в Польшу в 16 лет !
И причиной была эта самая моя роль свободного слушателя, которую я на тот момент не до конца понимала. Мало кто в принципе знает что на Академии Искусств есть такая возможность. Но об этом в другом блогпосте.
Nevertheless, this year I'm TOTALLY relaxed about the beginning of the academic year. Completely! Today I find it so funny how I was frightened last year! If then I had had hundreds of scenarios swarming in my head (and all of them weren't positive), this time I would think "Damn, I'm so excited!" by the end of July.
Since it will be my second 'first academic year' (because last year I was studying at the Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw as well, but at another faculty and as a 'free listener') I realize that I actually can share few pieces of advice with those, who just begin to step in students' life and who is about to join it in a year or two.
В этом же году я ТОТАЛЬНО расслаблена касательно начала учебы. Вообще! Мне даже смешно как сильно я боялась в прошлом году ! Если тогда в моей голове роились сотни сценариев происходящего (и все они не были позитивными) , то в этом я уже в конце июля думала "Черт, я в восторге! ".
Так как это уже будет по счету мой второй "первый студенческого год" (потому что в прошлом году я училась также на варшавской Академии Искусств, но на другом факультете в качестве 'свободного слушателя' ) я поняла что на самом деле могу поделиться несколькими советами с теми кто только включается в студенческую жизнь или кому она вот-вот предстоит.
1. New people
I literally imagined the meeting with students from my faculty, which was supposed to take place on October 1st, with shiver going through my body. I had been preparing for the worst and had a trouble falling asleep the week before the event because of the number of thoughts on this topic.
I don't recall how exactly, but during one of my attempts to calm myself, I thought :
"I can't not go there, no matter how afraid I am. Maybe I'm exaggerating? After all, I'm not able to know how everything will happen, but at the same time, I already experience the most horrible possible plots beforehand. "
I grasped that - I WON'T DO IT IF WON'T TRY - and this sentence became one of my key mottos since that moment. It's some kind of mantra, which I start to repeat aloud or quietly to myself time after time till I calm down. And then I simply go and do what I have to.
I use this lifehack today as well and it had never betrayed me.
Delaying a call? I say my mantra and call.
Haven't managed to start one project? Say this mantra and begin.
The trick is in self-programming of your incessant mind. I will write about this amazing technique in more detail in the following posts, so stay in touch. I actually started to experiment with self-programming after I read "Looking for the lost 'I' " by Ernest Tsvetkov and came across Mel Robbins's videos.
Не помню именно как, но во время одной из моих попыток успокоить саму себя я подумала:
"Я не могу не идти туда, насколько бы я не боялась. Может я все преувеличиваю? Я же не могу знать как все случится, но при этом уже наперед переживаю только самые ужасные возможные сюжеты".
Я осознала, что - Я НЕ СДЕЛАЮ ЭТОГО ЕСЛИ НЕ ПОПРОБУЮ - и это предложение стало с того момента одним из моих ключевых мотто. Что-то вроде мантры, которую я вслух или про себя начинаю повторять раз за разом пока не успокоюсь, а потом просто иду и делаю то что должна сделать.
И сегодня я использую этот лайфхак и он ни разу меня не подвел.
Оттягиваю какой-то звонок ? говорю про себя свою мантру и звоню.
Все никак не начну какой-то проект? говорю эту мантру и начинаю.
Весь прикол в запрограммировании себя и своего неумолкающего разума. Об этом я обязательно напишу подробнее в одном из следующих постов, так что будьте на связи, так как к экспериментам с самопрограммироваю я пришла на самом деле после видео Мел Роббинс и книги "В поисках утраченного 'Я' " Эрнеста Цветкова.
2. I developed a terribly bad habit of striving for an ideal. I used to thought through my appearance, outfits, gestures, even the way I walk preparing for events of the first of October to be unquestioningly perfect. I really could walk in the downtown of Warsaw, glancing at random people and assuming their opinion about me. Remembering this habit of mine, I feel awful.
Only two weeks ago after the cherished 1st of October, I realized how stupid it is to strive for perfection. You perform as a clown becoming your own parody. If you're in the same state understand - THERE'RE NO IDEALS! Things that seem to be perfect for you, would look awkward, not ideal enough for someone else.
I went so far that I checked out Facebook profiles of every of mine future mates on the faculty. It's just amusingly. Be yourselves, I beg you.
3. This advice is especially addressed to those, who enrolled in any of the universities connected with creative activities.
I'm sure you had to take multi-stage entrance examinations. I bet you convulsively were awaiting results. As for me, I had been relaxed and focused as much as possible at the exams, but I would analyze my points with the same persistence and even too much after I found them out.
Therefore it was so difficult for me last year to realize that I didn't earn enough points to enter the last stage of the examination. It seemed to me that the presentation, everything went right, but facing the reality I, or rather my Ego, had to survive the strike.
What's more interesting, the similar scenario had happened also this year, however this time I entered the university. And no matter how much I look forward to the beginning of the academic year, I still tend to analyze the criteria by which the jury choose me.
And the only advice I can give to people who find themselves in a similar situation - whether you have entered the uni you wanted to study in or not - DO NOT THINK ABOUT IT, FORGET. I'm serious.
Just like in the case of fear of meeting with new fellow students - you are not able to know anything in advance: what will be the attitude of teachers to you, how your points on the entrance exams will affect everything.
Moreover, you could've been extremely nervous during exams. You weren't able to be 100% yourself then for quite obvious reasons. Do not identify yourself with your work/artwork. Really, you should filter out these unnecessary worries. Keep on going on.
2. У меня выработалась ужасно вредная привычка стремления к идеалу. Я продумывала внешний вид, жесты, даже походку, готовясь к тому чтобы этого 1 октября на встрече быть беспрекословно идеальной. Я реально могла идти по центру Варшавы и поглядывая на окружающих представлять их мнение обо мне. Вспоминая эту мою привычку я чувстсвую себя ужасно.
Только спустя пару недель после заветного 1-го 09-го я осознала как глупо стремиться к идеалу. Ты становишься клоуном, породией самого себя. Если вы в похожем состоянии поймите - ИДЕАЛОВ НЕТ ! То что кажется идеальным вам, будет выглядеть нелепо или не до конца идеально для других.
Я даже подробно проверила профили всех моих будущих однокурсников на Facebook. Это просто смешно. Будьте самими собой, я вас умоляю.
3. Этот совет особенно адресован тем кто поступил на какие-либо универы связанные с креативной деятельностью.
Наверняка вы сдавали многоэтапные вступительные экзамены. И после каждого бьюсь об заклад вы судорожно ожидали результатов. Если на экзамене я могла быть максимально расслаблена и сосредоточена то узнав баллы я также по максимуму анализировала их и даже слишком.
Поэтому мне так тяжело далось осознание того что я не набрала достаточно баллов в прошлом году чтобы пройти на последний третий этап. Мне казалось что презентация, что все прошло хорошо, но столкнувшишь с реальностью я, а скорее мое Эго, пережило удар.
Но что самое интересное похожий сценарий случился и в этом году, а ведь в этот раз я поступила. И несмотря на сколько я ни предвкушала бы начало учебы, я все же часто анализирую по каким критериям и каким образом меня выбрали.
И один единственный совет, который я могу дать людям оказавшимся в подобной ситуации - поступили ли вы или нет - НЕ ДУМАЙТЕ ОБ ЭТОМ, ЗАБУДЬТЕ. Серьезно.
Так же как и в случае со страхом перед встречей с сокурсниками - вы не в состоянии знать наперед какое будет к вам отношение преподавателей, как ваши баллы на вступительных повлияют на все.
Тем более, на экзамене вы могли очень сильно нервничать. На нем вы могли не быть в 100 % самими собой по вполне очевидным причинам. Не идентифицируйте себя со своей работой. Реально, просто отфильтруйте эти ненужные волнения. Идите дальше.
These were my 3 key problems connected to enrolling the student's life. Everybody is afraid no to pass the exams, but believe me - I did not pass and it's not the end of the world. You are rather dread a great shift that's coming your way.
And no, I won't say anything trivial like "Everything will be fine", because it won't. Everything will be a little bit the same and a little bit different simultaneously. Fear of change is normal and what it will definitely teache you is to control the noise in your mind and the ability to turn off unnecessary automatic actions of this mischievous inner-working machine.
Это были мои три ключевые проблемы связанные со вступлением в студенческую жизнь. Все бояться не поступить, но поверьте что это не конец света. Больше всего вы как и я наверное просто боитесь тех сильных перемен которые начинают происходить в вашей жизни.
И нет, я ни за что не скажу банальное "Все будет хорошо", потому что так не будет. Все будет немного так же и немного по другому одновременно. Страх перемен нормален и чему он точно научит вас так это контролировать шум в своем разуме, умению выключать ненужные автоматические действия.
